Hola! Y Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Yes, it is the day of independence for our south of the border brethren. And time for another entry into my independent look at why people run. Today, against my urge to sleep just a little longer, I donned once again my running gear. Had I been thinking (a rarity of late), I would have mapped out a 5 miler for today. I was close though with 4.45 miles.
The temperature was a balmy 57 when I hit the streets at 5:40. It was a little humid with dark clouds to the west. I said a quick prayer for no rain, then thought 'what the heck...I'm dressed to the hilt in wicking fabric.' But no rain joined me for my run.
I started again at Car Quest, but headed north to Hwy 92 and took off eastbound from there. I ran to Bowman's garage at Norwood and headed south. At Court Avenue I turned west and headed back into town. Kid Rock kept me company on the ear buds today. His music has a steady beat that's easy to run to and is well paced. Once I go back into town, I decided to do a quick loop around the top half of the city park. There is construction on the loop, so I had to hit the grass a couple of times. I stayed on 9th and headed north to Lane Street and made a left at 10th heading back to Car Quest.
It was a rather quiet run (except for the music, which I keep to a low roar anyway, COACH). I will say though, I don't much care to run along the highway because the exhaust from passing vehicles stinks. I saw a few does about get nailed by a semi but they managed to skirt across the road. Then they plowed down into a ditch an jumped the fence. They must have some pretty good low light level vision, because I would have slammed right into the fence had I come screaming off the highway, down a ditch, and toward a fence like that.
Total run time was 40:31, distance 4.45 miles, pulse one minute after finishing: 164. Blood sugar pre/post: 127/97. Gosh, I sound like a medical chart...LOL.
I'll touch bases with you all next time.
See you on the streets...
myk
