From the way the weather felt this morning, we must be on the edge of Fall. School started back up on Monday for the kids, the overnight low was around 57, and the high school football team has their season opener on Friday. I cannot wait!! With two boys on the Varsity squad (I think both playing offense and defense), the next couple of years will be very fun, albeit stressful for Mom to watch. Guess I'll be sitting alone in the stands while she paces. Go HUSKIES! Whoop, whoop...oh yeah...this is a running blog...sorry...
This morning was an absolutely beautiful morning to run. As it was a Wednesday morning, the Madison County Milers met at Car Quest. Jeff Purdy, Angie Lauer, and I showed up. Michelle Silliman is nursing a sore hip and was absent. Jeff said he was favoring his hamstring and would only go a mile or so. Angie was up for a long run, and I wasn't sure. Seems like a recurring problem. Maybe I should make route note cards...The three of us started out together and quickly set our own paces.
Last night's full moon was still out, and the love planet, Venus was bright as ever and appeared to be chasing her. The sun? Still well below the horizon. As I ran, I had a lot of thoughts running through my head. I realized how long it had been since I ran with the moon. I guess we've had a few overcast mornings. It was nice to see her again. My Sansa Clip was generating some good tunes (I skipped Eminem this morning), and I was able to keep my pace faster then usual. And so there I was...making it another happy jog with all the sounds of nature.
Down 10th street, out Court, along Norwood, U-turn at highway 92 and back. Hey, that doe was gone, too. Thank goodness. She had gotten pretty stinky. Once back on 10th street, I decided to kick up the pace a bit more...really stretch the legs. The last 8 blocks of this route are rather fun to fartlek. I am really able to pump and run every other block. I'm working my way up from every other block to 2:1 (sprint:jog).
Number time: blood sugar 68 (add 25g of Performance), run time 35:09 (8:02 pace), max pulse 164. And I still beat the sunrise...
myk
