Running: 12 Aug 2010 - Return of the Sweati

It really feels good taking a few days off after a race.  Especially with the heat we have had lately.  Granted, I don't run at night (might walk, though), because the mornings are usually coolers.  We have had some god-awful heat indices...102, 107, 110+ and today is supposed to be the worst.  If this morning is an indication of the rest of the day, UGHHH.  Apparently though, yesterday was a beautiful morning to run.  Michelle emailed me yesterday and chewed me out for not showing up for our Wednesday run with the Madison County Milers.  I deserved it, too.

I got started this morning about 5:40.  I decided to do the 4.3 mile route I usually run on Wednesdays, but thought for a change I'd run it in reverse.  So instead of hitting the City Park last, I hit it first.  Coming out of the park and about a half mile down Court I could see a couple runners off in the distance.  I couldn't tell which direction they were running at first.  So I picked up the pace a bit.  Turns out I was gaining on them.  I caught them at Court and Norwood.  It was Michelle and Angie.  First Michelle then Angie 30 meters later and almost verbatim, "''bout time you got your lazy ass outta bed!"  Jeeze, hardcores!

There was no moon out this morning, but Venus was blazing away in the pre-sunrise sky.  It was also very muggy which seems to fuel the feeding habits of mosquitoes.  I think I swatted 6 or 7 from the time I got out of my car to when I started running.  This provided a good incentive not to stop running today and walk.  Our illiterate doe was still laying on the side of the road, much thinner than last week but very pungent in her decay.  I wish the turkey vultures would come do their job and get rid of the rest of her...LOL

OK, I'll wrap this up.  Final stretch of 10th St - fartleks.  I'm adding distance to the speed intervals which is good.  4.3 miles, 33:20, pulse 148, blood sugar after running 102.

Oh! One last thing.  I should have mentioned this Saturday after the Pump-n-Run.  I saw a walking oxymoron.  This guy shows up to register for the P&R.  He is built like a runner, has a few tattoos (one of which I noticed said 26.2).  Now, to me that would indicate he might be a runner...perhaps a marathoner.  Then I catch the whiff of cigarette smoke.  I take quick survey of the non-runners there.  Nope.  None of them.  Now I look harder.  And over by the side of the park is this guy...Mr. 26.2 tattooed dude.  He is smoking a Marlboro Light!  How do I know it was a Marlboro Light?  He smoked another one after smoking several of us in the 5k!

  2. Thank you, Jeff. I too appreciate your support. The only "problem" with blogging something such as this is now I'm accountable to more than just myself. I will say though, it is fun (the blogging...LOL).
