Running: 14 Aug 2010 - La, La, La...

Short and sweet this morning, kids...It was a misty, overcast morning.  A morning I would have loved to stay in bed.  But...the alarms went off, just like always at 5:00, 5:05, and 5:09am.  And like most mornings, I hit snooze on the 5:09am alarm 3 times.  Just a few more minutes of sorting out the day.  Here is where the new habit/commitment, but not quite addiction, and definitely not obsession kicked in.  Here is where Coach whispered, "get up and run."   So, up I got, donned my running gear, and grabbed my music.
I went downstairs and checked my blood sugar - 56.  I paused a moment to contemplate this.  I am out of Shaklee Performance and wondered what I could put in my system that would raise the blood sugar without making me sick.  Fortunately, I still had some OJ left over from last weekend's Pump-n-Run.  I grabbed an 8 oz. carton from the fridge and read it contained 29g of carbs.  Close enough to the 25g of Performance I usually drink in a situation like this.  I prayed it wouldn't come back to haunt me while I ran. (It didn't).

After stretching, I wandered out onto the street.  It was still rather dark and I wasn't sure where to run.  I stretched a bit more and decided to do a comfy 5k.  So off I went on pretty much the same 5k route I run in town.  My pace was good.  Probably a little too good fast.  I was clipping right along and suddenly I got tired.  Now I'm not sure if this is psychological or physiological, but stopping for a bit sure feels good.  So I did.  I'm going to have to figure out a way to keep my pace up without the burnout.  This running then walking stuff has to stop, otherwise I won't get any faster.  Longer strides?  A slower, but steadier pace for a while?  More stretching before hand?  Maybe I should have a cigarette before running like Mr. 26.2 did last Saturday?  I dunno...Coach?

I ran today's 5k in 23:27.  Checked the pulse twice: 172 about halfway through and 140 at the end.  Blood sugar: 116 - perfect.  OJ is OK.

OK, so maybe not so short and sweet, sorry.  Gotta run tomorrow (Sunday).  Michelle and Angie are kinda nagging me to.  Oh well, add another run toward my addiction...

myk
