Running: 30 July 2010 - Pickin up the Pace

Greetings, readers, runners, and rogues.  I really wrestled with whether or not to run this morning.  I had to be at work early, and was trying to convince myself that if I stayed in bed just a little longer, then I would not have time to run and be at work by 7:30.  Now, this is where the "addiction" must start to kick in.  I got up.  Yes, I got up.  I got dressed.  And, since I was up and dressed AND had wasted some time in getting to this place, I now had to hurry.  I hustled downstairs to put on my shoes and check my blood sugar.  49...urg.  I whipped up some Shaklee Performance and downed 8 oz. (25g of carbs).  It was out the door time at that point.

Once outside, I stretched a bit (probably not enough).  I then looked for something on my Clip to listen to...Eminem, Enya, the radio...Various 80's artists....YES.  So I settled on the 80's, flipped my watch to stopwatch, and took off...5:30 am.  Now today, I decided to pick up the pace a bit (partly because I was running a bit behind, and partly because I need to run faster.  The first few blocks felt ugly.  This was probably because I didn't stretch enough.  Coach woulda had my butt. :)

Today, it was pretty dark at 5:30, but my good friend the Moon was out and she kept me company and provided a bit of auxiliary light.  My plan today (since I had limited time to run) was to just do my 5k route.  Like I said, the first few blocks did not feel good, but I kept the pace up.  It was nice going down the long hill by the old Middle School.  Here, I extended my strides and picked up my knees a bit.  I kept motoring as I turned on to Summit and up its hill.  My shadow showed I was movin at a good clip - so did my watch.  On and on I ran.  I will admit slowing to a walk a couple of times.  But I adjusted my earbuds, took my pulse, tightened my shoelace...so, it wasn't all for naught...LOL.  23:44 seconds after departing my house, I returned.  Hmmm, fastest 5k yet.  Not bad.  Look out Mike Wells.  I stretched a bit and took my pulse - 148 two minutes after finishing.

Good thing ran this morning, cuz it looks like a rainy weekend coming.  Next Saturday is the 11th Annual Cannonball Pump and Run.  I neet to get my entry form sent in this weekend.   Speaking of that, have a good weekend everyone.  Thanks for following me and my blog...tell your friends about it.  Maybe they could become followers too.  And if they want, they could also lead...it's Coach's way...

myk
