Running: 26 July 2010 - Head out on a highway...

Welcome to another week of running and blogging.  I don't normally run on Mondays but I did today.  And from the sound of things, it's gonna be a scorcher of a week.  Nice to get some miles in early in the week.  But first for some sad news.  I lost my wallet this weekend.  I moped around all weekend.  Thanks go out to my family for turning the house upside down and not shipping me off to a mental ward.  OK, back to today's blog...

This morning was really no different than any other morning, although it WAS Monday, but it also felt a bit cooler too. I believe the temperature was 67 when I started.  I really did not know where I wanted to run this morning. I himmed and hawed a bit while I stretched.  Finally, I just took off.  I went north a couple of blocks and turned east.  I ran all the way til I hit 10th street on the far side of town and hang a right.  All the way down to Court and made the quick choice to head further east.  So I took Court all the way til it hit Norwood, hung a left and out to highway 92.  Then I made another quick decision - I chose to run all the way back into town down the highway.  I could see there had been another runner out here at some point since the last rains by their footprints.  They seemed to have a good pace to them becuse the strides were long.  I'll bet it was Mike Wells (LOL).  My pace today was good, though not as long as the mystery strider's.  As I approached town, I decided to throw in a few fartleks for "fun."  I think these must really help with speed.  I do know though, they tucker me out.

Well, 4.7 miles after starting, I entered my alleyway.  I checked my watch, and it read 35:04.  I checked my pulse after cooling down for a couple minutes and it was 132.  As a side note about pulses, a runner friend of mine (CJ), said his resting pulse is between 40-50, and his running pulse is somewhere around 100 and change!  I wish!  Maybe in time.  Oh yeah, and he's a year older than me and runs 5ks in the 18 minute range.  Urgh...

Oh, perhaps I should explain the hot air balloon at the top of the blog.  Friday is the National Balloon Classic 5k.  It starts at 7pm, July 30.  Check out the link.  Perhaps I'll see you there...
