Another muggy day in Winterset, Iowa (like Summer could be ANY different...). Rather slow in getting up this morning, but I did it anyway. I slipped on my running gear, grabbed my Sansa Clip and headed outside. I stretched and set my Clip to Bon Jovi's New Jersey. Being a "child" of the 80's, you just can't get enough Bon Jovi. Blood sugar before the run was 75, so like always, a good shot of Shaklee Performance was in order.
I decided to run my 5k route to get ready for tomorrow's Taste of Hope 5K Race / Fun Run / Walk in West Des Moines. I hadn't planned on it, but my brother Andy's church is sponsoring it and the proceeds will go to Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp. So off it went. I added a little extra distance today for grins and giggles. I didn't push too hard for most of the run, but in the middle and toward the end, I thought back to Coach's speed work I was supposed to be doing and threw in some fartlek running between power poles. At one point, I took my pulse. I had managed to push it up to about 174 or so. That might be a bit high, but I figured I needed it.
Today was 3.3 miles and I think the time was about 36 minutes, but I might have read my watch wrong, because I also saw 28 minutes. Either way, the workout was accomplished, the sweat ran freely, and Bon Jovi brought me home. Pulse 2 minutes after running was 122, blood sugar 95. I think I'm losing some weight too 'cuz man I look good in the mirror (butt is shrinking!) Yippee!! Losin' the "bubble..."
See ya tomorrow after the race...
myk
