I thought I should add this to the blog mostly because it involves mobile activity and sweat. About 10:30 last night I decided to take Koko (our dog) for a walk. He loves to walk. Matter of fact, we don't even say the word around him. And when he learns how to spell, we'll have to switch to Spanish to talk about it. Anyway, I got the 35 pound furry bladder harnessed up and set off. Once again, it was HUMID. I told him we were going to do about 2 miles, and as usual, he was rip, roarin', and ready to go. I have often tried to count the number of times he stops to pee on things, and always quickly lose count.
We set off on a pretty good pace, interrupted only by his gadzillion stops to pee. I followed pretty much my 5k route. Down Filmore to 8th Ave, left down to Summit, and back north on 1st Ave. It was heading back up 1st Ave that I noticed we were both starting to drag butt. He was panting, I was breathing kind of shallow, and at least one of us was sweating pretty profusely. He kept glancing at me like, "Dad, are we there yet?" A couple dog-leg jogs (sorry, Koko) and we were almost back home. Koko's trot had turned into a fairly slow walk and I could hear his claws dragging the pavement from time to time. My gait had slowed and breathing was becoming a bit shallow. Hypoglycemia - urgh. I knew it too. Lips were tingling a bit and the sweat was not all from the humidiity.
We got back to the house, and I gave the old guy some fresh water while I headed off to check the blood sugar. 59...figures. So I grabbed some grapes and about a 30g swig of Shaklee Performance (had to get the electrolytes, carbs, and fluids back up). That did the trick. Then a cool shower, some chit chat with my wife and off to bed.
I am glad we went for the walk. It made me not feel too guilty about not running this morning because it was stickier this morning than it was last night. Oh yeah, Koko and I had a good 2.3 mile walk.
Have a great day, folks...stay cool.
myk
