I was dragging butt this morning getting up. I'm not sure why, but maybe having the TV in our bedroom is leading to some late night watching...(we moved our room and the family room last weekend so Michael would have a place to sleep and so our bedroom would no longer be a thoroughfare). Well, the big screen is still mounted on the wall - in our new room. You can imagine how the kids are enjoying THAT! But I digress...back to the running...
I managed to get up and out the door by about 6:15 this morning. The sun was just below the horizon and was serving up a very orangish/red sunrise. The temperature was a nice 43 degrees and there was not a single cloud in the sky. I jumped in my pickup and headed for Car Quest.
I really hadn't considered my route this morning until I got out and stretched. I wanted something a bit further than my now "routine" four plus mile runs. My Cedar bridge route sits at about 4.4 miles so I picked it. So with my faithful music playing in my ears, I set off toward the bridge. By the time I got to the bridge I was feeling pretty good and as I approached my turn around point, I decided to press on a little further. Ultimately, I pressed on up the hill and north to the Cumming highway and turned around.
Coming back to my original turn around point, I turned right and ran through the bridge. As I passed the midway point on the bridge, I noticed a familiar black spot. This was the same black spot (or at least in the same spot as the black spot from my run on 9/13/10 (See-da [Cedar] Bridge). Today though, I could see it was an area of bat guano. "Hmm," I thought and ran on.
Out the bridge and up the hill from hell I went. I did stop for a second to pick my wife some flowers. I'm not sure if they were the ones I had smelled as I entered the little valley, but they were very pretty. The whole valley had smelled like petunias and made running through there very pleasant. So after picking the flowers, I made my way up the hill, around a couple bends, down a hill, up a hill, and back to Car Quest.
I finished running this morning in 56:10, heart rate was good, music was good, and when I got home I found the distance to be good as well: 10K. Pleased with my progress and distance, I hit the shower. '
I am hoping to get a 15K in by next weekend. That will give me week to ease into the 20K for Dam to Dam. I can do this...I know I can.
myk
