I would say I got up bright and early this morning, but I'd be lying. It was early, but it was definitely NOT bright. 5:20 came early. It was another MCM running day. So up I got, and dressed did I and down the street my car did fly. I pulled into Car Quest right behind Michelle. Dan Staples was already there and warming up. We continued to stretch and chat while waiting for Angie. Just as Michelle was thinking Angie had bailed out due to the fog, she showed. We all chatted a bit about how far we were each going to run, jammed the ear buds in, started our watches, and took off.
But it was the fog that stood out today. It was very dense, and at 61 degrees, it made it almost chilly. I ran pretty much the usual MCM route again today. Michelle and I were looking for about 4 miles, but to get a little extra out of it, I decided to add the upper portion of Clark tower road in the city park. This decision was not made until the I got to that point in the road.
The fog made it difficult to be seen so I gave all vehicles wide berth. But it also collected in droplets on my arm hairs and eyelashes. I imagined it freezing into icicles. Wow, what a random thought while running. For some reason this morning while I ran, I chose not to run to rock-n-roll or rap. I was in a mellow mood and skipped anything but the "comfortable" tunes on my Sansa Clip. The pace was good. So good in fact, that I was able to run the entire 4.8 miles without stopping.
I mentioned the upper tower road. Like I said, it wasn't until I was upon it that I decided to take it. Come to find out, it was a bit longer than I had envisioned it. No worries. If you link out to today's run and check the course map, you can see the elevation changes in my course. I noted in my head that it went down for quite a while. This normally leads to an UP at some point along the way....it did. But I grunted it out and kept my pace.
I finished the 4.8 miles this morning in 39:48. I didn't check my pulse (not sure why), blood sugar 56 before running. I'm also working on raising the blood sugar numbers by adjusting the basal rates in my pump. It would be nice to try to have a morning run that wasn't under the threat of hypoglycemia.
I'm thinking about looking into a Garmin Forerunner....maybe...
myk
