I must be getting used to this running stuff. I woke before my alarm clocks this morning and thought about going running. "No," I told myself "today is a day of rest." So I went back to sleep. I did, however, stretch a bit when I finally rolled out of bed - just like I do every morning that I go running. I also took some time to reflect.
It's been about a month since I started running. And I suppose I am much closer to my goal of running 20k at Dam to Dam. An anonymous reader stated I'm half way there. I suppose in some respects, I am. In being able to cover the distance, yes. Now comes the long arduous process of becoming conditioned to running.
Learning how to breathe, and how to pace myself properly. How to eat and drink the right things. How to become a runner with Diabetes and how to adjust insulin rates based on exercise. Like I said a couple weeks ago, caffeine has all but vanished from my life. God bless water and Shaklee Performance. I will probably hold on to my running shoes for a while. I don't think they have enough miles on them yet. Do I "become" a runner and buy runner's shorts? Do I buy shirts that wick all that damn sweat away from my body? Do I invest in a dinky MP3 player? Like being at a crossroads...how wrapped up in this do I want to become?
I wonder, in a year, with the 2011 Dam to Dam being a month over, where will I be with this running stuff? Where WILL I be on July 9, 2011? A lot can happen in a year...
myk
I'd say stay away from the MP3 idea. You'd be much safer on the road without one. Yes, you can pick a great song with a great beat to run to, but they drown out the surrounding noise. (They actually prefer no electronics during the Dam to Dam race.) I've found you can create your own beat of a song with your feet hitting the pavement and each breath you take.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You'll save yourself some money...maybe for a future trip...or new truck...
