Running: 6 July 2010 - "Genesis in Hell"

Why Genesis in Hell as the label for today's blog?  Because today's run was just that...hell.  I don't know why, either.  I've taken two days off before so this should be no REAL surprise or change for my body.  Yesterday my calves felt like two overstuffed sausage tubes about to burst.  They felt a bit better today, but while I ran (if you can call it that), I got a little shin-splinty in my left shin.  Another interesting physiolgoical observation this morning, was that after about a block I was ready to walk.  It felt like I had a medicine ball in my stomach.  Very tight.  Very uncomfortable.

But I set out anyway, a bit late as well this morning.  I headed toward the high school with the intention of doing only a couple miles.  I did.  And I walked off and on throughout the 2 mile trip.  It felt like my first day of running all over again!  Why the "set-back?"  Why the swolen calves?  I've been drinking water (too much?).  I'm gonna have to work through it though.  I signed up last night for the Ames Midnight Madness run coming up this weekend.  But I am doing the 10k instead of the 5k.  GULP!  No speed records will be broken by me on this one...I'm going for the finish.  Friends have been supportive: 'You've already done half of it - piece of cake!'  Dad and I are going.  He is going to run the 5k and then the 10k.  I am only doing the 10k.  That'll be enough.

Today: 2 miles - 22:30.  Pulse: 156.

I'll catch you all somewhere on down the road...
