Running: June 15, 2010 (and a little background)

Ok, remember that voice this morning that told me to stay in bed?  I don't like him.  Well, part of me does.  That would have been my wenis.  No, not THAT!  Shame on you folks. A wenis, according to www.definition-of.com, is - the stretchy skin that covers your elbow - almost like your funny bone.  That's the only part of me that is not sore.

Coach told me it was OK not to have run this morning, but to run 2 miles tonight and then again (3 ) tomorrow morning. Urg!  Anyway, tonight's run, 2.2 miles (to the high school and back) took me 21:11.  Right about double the time it took me to do the 1.1 yesterday.  Admittedly, I walked for 1 minute.  Pulse at the end of the run: 156 again.

Ya know, I've heard runners achieve a "euphoric state" at some point during the grueling ordeal of running.  It must come sometime LOOOONG after the 2.2 mile mark because I did not once feel "euphoric."

Another interesting tidbit about me and running is my relationship with my dad, Bob Kaldenberg.  Back in the day (1960s and 70s), he and my Uncle Bob were known for running not only marathons, but 50 mile races!  Why in the world would ANYONE want to run that far?  Euphoria? Pshaw!!! Not gonna happen here, folks.  Well, that notoriety came to haunt me in high school.  I walked onto the track team and was immediately targeted to be the 1 and 2 miler because I was Bob Kaldenberg's kid.  I protested, indicating to the coaching staff that not only was I not a distance runner, I was also adopted (true statement).  I wound up running the 880yd run (800m) by today's standard.  That lasted one season.

Next fall, my dad became the Cross Country coach.  Never guess WHO got "drafted" (read coerced) to run X Country...

Gotta go stretch...I'm supposed to run in the morning...Oh joy....
